Wally Judge Quits K-State

Jan 31, 2011 5:14 PM

Wally Judge has left Kansas State's team.

“Wally quit the team today,” head coach Frank Martin said. “He’s not happy. I kinda saw it coming because of some of his emotional situations. He just has not been enjoying it.

"He told me today that he thinks it is time for a change.”

Judge averaged 5.5 points and 3.8 rebounds, missing five games earlier in the season for what Martin described as a personal issue.

No. 14 Missouri Thumps No. 24 Kansas State

Jan 18, 2011 9:01 AM

No. 14 Missouri defeated No. 24 Kansas State 75-59 thanks to 24 forced turnovers.

Phil Pressey was 3 for 5 from three-point range and had 13 points for the Tigers.

"He was like a little gnat out there, even to the point where one guy pushed over," coach Mike Anderson said of the freshman. "For a guy that's been out for almost three weeks to play the way he's played the last two games, he's got a chance to be a special player."

Jacob Pullen had 16 points and Jordan Henriquez-Roberts added 14 for Kansas State, which has dropped three of four.

Martin Takes Blame For K-State's Struggles

Jan 17, 2011 6:56 PM

Kansas State coach Frank Martin is taking the blame for the team's struggles.

The Big 12 favorites began league play with a pair of losses and just earned its first conference win Saturday over struggling Texas Tech.

Martin said the buck stops at his office door when it comes to the recent on-court struggles.

"I'm one of those guys, I believe in accountability, I believe in work ethic, I believe in doing things the right way. That's what we've tried to do in my four years at Kansas State," Martin said. "I probably got away from that a little bit the last five or six weeks with us being such a young team and how we handled some adversity, how we handled a couple players and the trouble they got in. I probably didn't do a very good job. I'm about rolling your sleeves up and working.

"I didn't do as consistent of a job as I needed to do to get us through those tough moments. For that I failed the team. I tell players all the time, 'It's never too late to change. You can always make a decision to get better.' It was about time I started doing what I preached."

Kelly Set For Return To Kansas State

Jan 15, 2011 11:58 AM

Curtis Kelly will play for the first time since Christmas when Kansas State takes on Texas Tech on Saturday.

Drama has surrounded Kelly, now a senior, who once had NBA dreams.

A failed two-year experiment at Connecticut, lengthy stays on Kansas State coach Frank Martin’s naughty list  and a humiliating six-game suspension for accepting clothing discounts at Dillard’s include his transgressions.

“This season, I made a lot of stupid mistakes,” Kelly said. “I have to apologize to the fans and my teammates. I already apologized to my teammates and my coaches and my family. I made a lot of stupid mistakes that I would make two or three years ago. Not now. I don’t know why I made those mistakes. But it happened.”

Coming out of high school in New York, he was one of the nation’s highest-rated recruits.

Pullen: I Won't Play Basketball In NIT

Jan 14, 2011 2:28 PM

Jacob Pullen wants Kansas State to reserve their struggles quickly.

Kansas State is off to a rough start in Big 12 play and the senior doesn't want to miss the NCAA Tournament in his final season.

"This is my last go-around," Pullen said  after his team's loss to Colorado on Wednesday. "I'm not going to the NIT. I won't play basketball in the NIT. I'm saying that now. If we lose, and we have to go to the NIT, I will not play."

Kansas State is 12-5 overall and ranked No. 20 in the USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 poll, so they aren't currently in danger of missing the NCAA Tournament.

"We've just got to grow up," Pullen said. "That's the biggest thing. The Big 12 is 16 games. We lost our first two. Nothing says we can't win the rest."

The Wildcats were ranked as high as No. 3 before losing Jacob Pullman and Curtis Kelly to a three-game NCAA suspension for receiving improper benefits.
